I love animals. I love them enough not to eat them. And since I don't eat them, I can truly say that my conscience is clear because I don't contribute to their suffering or killing.
I have little appreciation of people who are aware of the tremendous suffering of animals in slaughterhouses, but continue to eat meat anyway. If these people can't show any kind of compassion towards a defenseless and voiceless non-human creature, then I cannot imagine them showing any compassion towards defenseless and helpless humans.
Industrialized animal food production is a form of slavery. Animals are enslaved by their human captors for their meat, skin, fur, sexual organs, feathers, tails, paws, and other body parts. In these slaughterhouses, the captive animals can hardly move, flap their wings, see natural light, and breathe fresh air. Their beaks are chopped off, they are fed with questionable feed, and their bodies are injected with growth hormones that make them look freakish.
Industrialized animal food production is a form of terrorism. Before they are slaughtered, animals are mocked, physically abused, and tortured by their merciless human captors. If you eat meat, you contribute to this act of terrorism.
If you love animals like I do, stop eating them. When you stop eating meat, you liberate animals from their suffering and miserable existence. And when you liberate animals, you liberate yourself from the ghastly chains of meat consumption and implacable pride.
